Tom Struan Brown
Scotland
This month we cross the Atlantic Ocean to introduce you to Scottish singer/songwriter, Tom Struan Brown. Struan Brown, currently 24, started playing guitar at 16. He began performing while he was attending The Art College in Carlisle. While there, he participated in a music module which allowed him to play his own songs, and it gave him a lot of positive feedback. While there, he also studied Multimedia Design and Digital Animation. So what would inspire someone with his background to focus on music? Read more

Straitlaced

Sing-able melodies, lyrics that could break your heart, and did I mention twins? Well, these guys have it all … and much more. Straitlaced is one of those bands that just snuck up on me. I’m still not sure what made me decide to check out their tracks while scouting bands in the area. Usually I don’t spend a lot of time on bands that look particularly young, but I was very lucky to come across a few very young and very talented bands this month. Read more

Stillframe

I was thrilled when Jason Ziemba, drummer for the very talented band, Stillframe, was kind enough to grant AudioXposure an e-mail interview. If you haven’t had the opportunity to hear Stillframe’s truly unique style, you’re severely missing out. The raw emotion these guys put into their work shows through in every beat and every note, and when combined with the hypnotic depth of Brad Shanfelt’s absolutely beautiful voice, the experience is nothing short of addictive. Steal the Air - Indie Band Interview

Steal the Air
Hillsborough, NJ

To be perfectly honest, I thought the pop-punk genre went the way of free geocities websites back in days of yore (don’t act like you didn’t have one in ‘98). After all, my fondest memories of local shows include hyperactive pre-pubescents with funny haircuts screaming about their ex-girlfriends and ritalin habits (or, ex-girlfriends WITH ritalin habits). But apparently, pop-punk has grown up a lot since I was in high school. Steal the Air has effectively stolen my heart and proved me wrong. Read more

There are a small number of comedic musicians out there. We know Adam Sandler from Saturday Night Live and his “red hooded sweatshirt.” But there really aren’t too many versatile artists who get up and really entertain us with a little wit. Now, in the same vein comes Stucco Lobster Breadbox. Read more
The Sleeping - Indie Band Feature

The Sleeping
Long Island, NY
www.thesleeping.com
The Sleeping is a four-piece rock band from Long Island, NY with more attitude and charisma than any stage can contain. The guys recently finished an east coast stretch with our local boys, The Twilight Collective. Harry, TTC’s drummer, asked me if I’d check out The Sleeping while I was at one of their tour stops in Wilmington, DE, and if I’d consider doing a write-up for them. I figured, what the hell, I’m a NY kid myself, so giving it up for some of my own “locals” couldn’t hurt. And the fact that TTC’s pretty awesome themselves made it easy enough to trust their judgment. In retrospect, I’m damn glad I did. Read more

Settle

www.settlemusic.net
Settle, Settle, Settle … what a deceiving name for this group! I hardly know where to begin describing the eclectic style, immense dedication, and the overall intensity that these guys bring to their work. With a sound that’s a little bit retro, a little bit in-your-face, and a whole lot of fun, these guys will definitely give you something to get up and dance to. There’s a bouncy sort of energy that you won’t be able to resist. Go ahead and try. I dare you. Read more
